    Milton - Deacon Truman Saunders, who has been failing in healthfor months diedSaturday afternoon at the residence of hisson-in-law, Professor A. R. Crandall. Deceased had been aresident of the village for many years and had the respect andesteem of the community. He died at the ripe old age of eighty.He leavesfour sons, E. B. and H. G. Saunders of this village,J. B. Saunders of Morgan Park, Ill., and a daughter, Mrs. A. R.Crandall of this place. The funeral services were held Tuesdayafternoon at the Seventh day Baptist church.

    Death has taken one from our midst well known in the village ofMilton and Milton Junction, and better known in West Hallock,Peoria Co., Illinois where he helped to make that community whatit is, a thrifty God fearing people.
    Deacon Truman Saunders was born in Berlin, New York Nov. 13,1814 and died Nov. 24, 1894, aged 80 years and11 day. He movedto Illinois in 1854, where he resided until he came to Miltonfifteen years ago. He bought a large tract of land in Illinoisand by industry,act and economy he succeeded in paying for andimproving his land which though sold to others is now worth $100per acre. But Deacon Saunders will be remembered not for whathe acquired of real estate, but for what he was, anunexceptionably fine man. He was of excellent stock to beginwith; received a good educationfor those days, taught school inNew Jersey when young, was afterwards a merchant and finally amodel farmer. He was successful in everything owing to hisnatural talent, application, honesty and many qualities whichcombine to render one successful in life. Above all he was aconsciencious christian, kind and gentlein his intercourse withothers and firm as a rock where any principle was involved. Heleaves a daughter, four sons and two sisters. The funeralexercises werelargely attended on Tuesday at the S. D. B.Church of which he was an esteemedmember, Rev. E. M. Dunnofficiating assisted by President Whitford.

    Died: of dropsy and heart failure on Christmas morning at herresidence, Mrs. Phebe Wilcox Saunders wife of Deacon TrumanSaunders, aged 72 years, 11 months 19 days.
    It washoped that Mrs. Saunders would recover from her illness,but death came soon than was expected even by those who hadfears she might not recover. The diseasedwas a women of greatexecutive ability and possessed of a gifted and cultivatedmind.She was educated at Miss Willard's Female Seminary in Troy, N.Y. She wasmarried to Mr. Saunders in 1844. They moved to WestHallock, Ill., in 1854, where after 25 years of industry,economy and benevolence they accumulated a largeand valuableestate and reared and educated a family of six children five ofwhomare still living. She came here to reside over 14 yearsago, where through herconsistent christian life her activityand in every good cause a quite aeffectivuate demeanor, she hadendeared herself to the hearts of all. The church, theW.C.T.Uand the community realize they have lost a valuable member. Shedid notfear the approach of death, was living to live or die asbest pleased her beloved Father. She will be greatly missed byall, but what is Milton's loss is Heaven's gain.
