Orlin P. Fay 1898, Fay Genealogy: John Fay of Marlborough and his
Decendants. LDS Ancestral File gives date of birth 1652. He
embarked 30 May 1656 at Gravesend, England, on the ship Speedwell,
arriving Boston 27 June 1656, one of about five passengers destined
for Sudbury, Massachusetts. He subsequently left to join the
founders of the new plantation of Marlborough where in 1669 he is
recorded as a freeman with a wife and one child. 1671: among
petitioners for a grant of land (never granted?). 1675: proprietor
of Worcester, with 50 acres assigned lying along the county road to
Boston; he continued to live in Marlborough, in the southern part of
town later incorporated into Southborough (1727). 1684: one of
proprietors of the Ockoocangenesett Plantation purchased from the
Indians.

John Fay (1648-1690) was a Huguenot refugee from France to Wales.
Went to Massachusetts in the Speedwell in 1656. Lived Watertown,
later Sudbury, then Marlborough 1675.

G.H. Johnson 1913, One Branch of the Fay Family Tree; An Account of
the Ancestors and Descendants of William and Elisabeth Fay of
Westboro, Massachusetts, and Marietta, Ohio. There were 41
"Pasingers abord the Speedwell of London, Robert Lock, Master" which
left Gravesend 30 May 1656 and arrived Boston 27 June 1656. All 41,
including 8 year old John Fay, went to Sudbury, Massachusetts. John
was in Marlborough by 1671. He received a grant of 50 acres of land
in Worcester in 1675, but this may have lapsed as he never lived
there. The 1688 Marlborough tax list shows john ffay for 0£ 4s 4d
0f. On 18 April 1690 he became a freeman of the Commonwealth. There
were 56 grandchildren from his 8 children.

Watertown records also give the death of Mary Fay, daughter of John
and Mary Fay, on 2 August 1676.

Mary Fay Nelson, 9 October 1997. Believes that David Fay is the
father of this John Fay, but there are a number of David and John
Fays.
1) David Fay married 1616 in Penton Mewsey, Hampshire, England.
2) John Fay, son of David Fay, baptised in Penton Mewsey in 1651.
3) Various Fay families around Andover, Hampshire, England.
4) Wills, burials, and baptismals document four generations of Farys
in the Lord of Savernake's Estate Records, Collingsborn Ducis,
Wiltshire, England, about 11 miles from Penton Mewsey.

Sudbury, Massachusetts, records name the father of John and
Michael Fay as David Fay who came to America before 1656.
John owned land in Worcester, Massachusetts, but remained in
Marlborough until the Indian threat (King Phillips War) forced the
family to move to the security of Watertown, Massachusetts.

1 January 1691.

1635, settling in Watertown, Massachusetts. He died leaving an
estate worth 449£ 4s 9p to his three sons and one daughter.

that became Cambridge at a later date.

1033775, item #3. Thomas Brigham probably born in England 1603, died
Cambridge, Massachusetts, 8 December 1653 (the 8th day of the 10th
month, i.e. December in the old calendar, not October as recorded in
other references). Probably buried in the old Burial Ground on the
south side of Cambridge Common.
Probably married in 1637.
8 April 1635: Thomas Brigham, age 32, named on a passenger list
of those to be taken to New England on the Suzan and Ellen, under
command of Mr. Edward Payne, Master.
Place of residence unknown, but he owned 13 acres in Watertown, on
the boundary of Newtown (later Cambridge), a village rather closer to
his property. This is now partially occupied by Radcliffe College at
the intersection of Brattle Street and Ash Street. In due course
additional land grants were received. Other land transactions exist
for Thomas Brigham including 180 acres in Shaw Shine, an area set off
from Cambridge in 1655 and later incorporated as Billerica.
18 April 1637: Made Freeman by General Court of the Massachusetts
Bay Company.
1 October 1639: Became Constable and joined with the Selectmen of
the town. Reappointed 8 November 1642.
8 June 1646 and 4 November 1646: Thomas Brigham 7 shillings 6
pence and 4 shillings, respectively, for violation of laws regarding
maintenance of hogs and oxen. Also 11 October 1647 and 12 January
1651 again fined. (Most of villagers were involved in violations.)
Will dated 7 December 1653, proved 3 October 1654 at County Court
held in Cambridge. Heirs include his wife (Mercy Brigham), eldest
son Thomas and four other children: John, Mary, Hannah, and Samuell.
Among overseers of the will is named William Towne. Value of estate
449 pounds 4 shillings 9 pence. The failure to record a deed of sale
of Thomas's Watertown property lead to a lawsuit by four surviving
children in 1695 to reclaim ownership.

W.L. Rubbles, Brigham Ancestry, pp. 1, 3 and 6. Reverend Thomas
Shepherd, preacher at Buttercrambe, Yorkshire, guided a party of
Yorkshire men to emigrate. They embarked on the Susan and Ellen in
London, 18 April 1635. Married in Massachusetts, but no record has
been found.

Emma Elisabeth Brigham 1927, The History of the Brigham Family, vol.
2. Settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on a homestead adjacent to
that of brother-in-law Simon Crosby.

with her sister (who is reputed to have married William Cutter) due
to persecution in England for (religious) nonconformity.
