    Notes:
    Date of birth is tentative. He lived in Seattle in 1915-17. Prob died 1917 in Seattle.

    First forest ranger in Hill City, SD 1905-06. Later tried tire vulcanizing in Newcastle, WY and working in a Ford plant in Seattle.

    Buried on Aug 31, 1917 in Greenwood Cemetery, Newcastle, WY.
    Several records say William Andrew Poe married Jane Marietta Weaver, but all records say his kids were the children of Matilda Toney. Can not find record of Jane Marietta Weaver.

    Date of birth is also listed as 8, 13, and 18 May.

    Notes:
    First name may have been Malinda or Mathilda. Last name also spelled as Tony.

    Her grave is in Hanna/Carbon, WY. In an undated letter from Oliver Harold Bacon, he tells Randy Everette that the William & Matilda Poe family was moving to California. However, enroute Matilda died and they discontinued the trip and remained in Wyoming. She was buried in an unmarked grave as the family was afraid Indians may have desecrated the body.

    Many feel there is Indian blood in this branch of the family as some of Matilda's children have a definite Indian look to them. This is apparently from Matilda's side as no known Indian blood is on William's side.

    Andrew Jackson Poe died in Anson, MO but is buried in Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte, Van Buren Co., IA.
    Loved to walk, in great condition. Thought nothing of walking across Iowa. Andrew Poe and Rachel Meek are ancestors of William A.. Poe. In 1835 Andrew Jackson Poe accompanied his parents to Newberg T., Cass Co., MI, and settled in Sec. 22 where he grew to adulthood. He then went to Van Buren Co., IA, where he married Jane Weeks. (This shold have been "Meeks.") To this union were born 9 children. They moved from IA to MO.

    Notes:
    1. May have had 9 children with Elizabeth Roberts.. Possibly born in Columbiana, OH. (There were no counties in Ohio until 1778). Another record says born in either Washington Co or Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. (Although son Charles on 1880 census says his father born Pennsylvania). Buried Poe Cemetery, Cass Co., MI. Year of birth also listed as 1779, but prob 1778.

    - 1810 05 Nov - George Poe was commissioned Captain, 1st Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Division Ohio Militia - and served in the War of 1812.
    - 1811 22 Jan George Poe was sworn to his Captaincy in Stark Co., OH.
    - 1812 George Poe, with wife and children, moved to Wayne Co., OH. They lived in Wooster for three years.
    - 1812 George Poe was a member of the Wayne Co. Grand Jury. He and his family had to come to Wooster that year. One case tried was that of a Jacob Matthews for assault and battery.
    - 1814 31 Oct George Poe was entitled to a patent for the SE1/4, Section 28,Township 21, Range 14 in Canton District.
    - 1814 31 Oct George Poe of Wooster, Ohio, purchased of the Register of the Land Office at Canton the SW1/4, Sec. 27, T. 21, Rg14 of the Canton District containing 160 acres at $2.00 per acre for $300. Registered 31 Oct 1818.
    - 1814 George Poe owed taxes on his Wayne Co., Ohio land. (SW34-16-13)
    - 1815 George and Isaac Poe cut a trail from Wooster to where the village of Congress was formed. They and their families settled on Section 27, 1/2 mile south of Congress.
    - 1815 George Poe moved to Congress Township. George Poe was the first justice of the peace at Congress.
    - 1818 31 Oct George Poe's land patented 31 Oct 1814 was registered.
    - 1821 23 Aug George Poe surrendered the original land certificate and filed for a new declaration. He apparently received "further credit."
    - 1824 15 Jul George Poe sold his land to William Poe of Wayne Co., OH for $800.
    - 1824 15 Jul William Poe of Wayne Co., OH, received of George Poe of Wooster, Wayne Co., OH, (the land SE1/4 of Se. 28, T. 21, Rg 14) and the Register of the Land Office that had been patented in 1814 for $329.14. Apparently William assumed George's debt and paid it.
    - George Poe moved his family to near Bucyrus, Crawford Co., OH, where Elizabeth died. Abt 1835, George Poe then married Lettice Campbell, a former acquaintance in Columbiana Co., OH, and they moved to MI.
    - 1835 16 Sep In 1835, George Poe settled on Section 22. He came from Crawford County, Ohio, and made his first entry of land, September 16, 1835. He subsequently made other entries and other members of the Poe family came in and made settlements in the same locality, thus forming the nucleus of a settlement which is known today as the Poe neighborhood and from which Poe's Corners takes its name. This family descends from Adam Poe, the Indian fighter. (HISTORY OF CASS COUNTY, MI - 1882)
    - 1835 16 Sep George Poe made his first entry of land, Section 22, Newberg T., Cass Co., MI. Other Poes came to this area and it is now known as Poes Corners. George helped organize Newberg T. He was a member of the highway commission and helped lay out the road from Constantine to St. Joseph to Benton Harbor in Berrion Co., MI.
