VR 1843 11 Jan Isaac and Polly married at Homer, Medina Co., OH.
81 1844 11 Jan Has this date for their marriage.

29-2 1863 27 Jul Polly Poe of Concord T., Jefferson Co., WI, widow of Isaac Poe, SGT, Co. F, 29th REGT of WI Volunteers - commanded by CPT Charles A. Holmes and COL Charles R. Gill - made this statement: Isaac enlisted at Jefferson, WI, 14 Aug 1862, for 3 years. He died in a hospital at Helena, Arkansas, 6 Mar 1863 of disease contracted in the line of duty as a soldier after serving 7 months 22 days. Polly married Isaac Poe 11 Jan 1843 at Homer, Medina Co., OH. There are 7 children by Isaac living: Francis M. is 18, Chauncey is 16, Cyndrilla is 14, David W. is 10, Willis is 7, Theodore is 4 and Ida is 20 months. All are residing with their mother at Concord, WI. Her attorney is George W. Bird.
Witnesses are Webster Holcomb [her father] and Lucinda rouse [her sister].

29-2 1863 20 Oct John and Elvira Parks [Elvira being Polly's sister] made their statement saying Isaac and Polly were married 11 Jan 1843 at Homer, Medina Co., OH by a Justice of the Peace and that they were present for the ceremony.

29-2 1863 24 Nov The unit's casualty sheet gives Isaac's DOD as 7 Mar 1863 though all other sources have 6 Mar 1863. A slow unit clerk, I would imagine.

    29-2 1865 16 Mar Polly was granted a widow's pension, #43,006, at $8 per month, retroactive to 7 Mar 1863.
1866 23 Nov Polly applied for an increase in the pension for David Poe born 31 Dec 1852, Flavel W. Poe born 28 sep 1855, Theodore I. Poe born 1 Aug 1858 and Ida E. Poe born 11 Nov 1861.
1867 26 feb Polly received an increase in her pension of $2 per month for each of the four children retroactive to 25 Jul 1866.

    1. David was named after father Adam's best friend, Col. David Williamson, father's associate in Indian wars. Had flour mills in Brooklyn Center, Cuyahoga Co., OH. Went to Nebraska to locate more mill sites. Was returned to Brooklyn Center for burial. David W. Poe was a Justice of the Peace in Medina County at one time. 9 1843 David W. Poe moved to Cleveland where he opened a tavern east of Brooklyn near the Brighton Bridge. Died with his son David Jackson Poe in a blizzard on the prairie. Died from exposure after snowstorm.

    2. One source lists birth year as 1789 and another 1799; 1850 census lists DW Poe as 50, so I will use 1799.

    - 1856 Joseph Poe wrote home about an article he read in the Galena, IL, newspaper about the deaths of David Williamson Poe and David Jackson Poe. They were caught in
a blizzard while searching for a homestead near Nebraska City, Otoe Co., NE. Their arms and legs were frozen and they died when these were amputated. Adam Poe, who was in Nebraska City at the time, also wrote home about their deaths.
-1857 09 Apr These DOD on the tombstones of David Williamson Poe and David Jackson Poe in the Brookmere Cemetery at Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio are incorrect. This is likely the dates their bodies were buried.
