This destroyer was credited, in sinking one Japanese submarine and shouting down five enemy planes in the South Pacific. His ship, the U.S.S. Walker, escorted President Roosevelt across the Atlantic Ocean to the Yalta Conference with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin.

    OBIT:
    Virginia R. Baran-Stuart, 77, of Sun City, AZ entered into eternal rest on March 6, 2008. She was born in Cleveland, OH and moved to Arizona in 1971. Virginia enjoyed all aspects of her 58 years in health care as a Registered Nurse. She will be lovingly missed by her husband, T.O. Stuart, sons, Michael (May) Baran, Robert (Shirley) Baran and Jeff Baran, brothers, Frank J. (Ann) Vargo and Gregory (Rita) Vargo, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous friends and extended family. Visitation will be held from 2:00P.M.-7:00P.M. with a scripture service starting at 3:00P.M. on Sunday March 9, 2008 at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00P.M. Tuesday March 11, 2008 at St Jerome Catholic Church, 10815 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix, AZ.

    Always had stomach problems and died one year after the arrival of his daughter, Mary, to the U.S. (per Julia Sheley).

    IMMIGRATION:
    No one has ever mentioned that Jozef came to the United States but a manifest was found listing someone with this same name and of a similar age coming from Niwiska (small village near Dobrynin). This individual arrived in the U.S. in 13 Mar 1903 on the S.S. Barbarosa sailing from Bremen. Listed as married, age 43. Destination was his cousin Jozef (unreadable but possibly something like PEKLAK or PEKAR) in Cleveland, Ohio.

    In 1999, 49 Polish provinces were reduced to 16 and given new names. Rzeszów is now Podkarpackie. The town of Mielec was located between Debice and Sandomierz, on the River Wisloka. Its population was about evenly divided between Jews and Poles.
