    Notes:
THE BABCOCK GENEALOGY, by Stephen Babcock, page 60.
Benjamin-6 Babcock, son of Colonel Nathan Babcock and Deborah)Stafford) Babcock, was born at Westerly, RI. He married Desire Billingsof Stonington, Connecticut, Feb. 4, 1779. In 1801 they emigrated toPennsylvania. They settled at or near Bridgewater, Susquahanna County,Pennsylvania, for it was here that one of their sons, Benjamin (2nd)resided. Susquehanna County, Penn., which was then a part of LuzerneCounty, was claimed by Connecticut for many years. References toLegistation affecting the "Connecticut claimants" are found in thelegislative manuals of the Pennsylvania legislature during years between1780 and 1810.
Inasmuch as Benjamin Babcock (1st) married Desire Billings ofStonington, Conn., there seems a possibility that he became a resident ofConnecticut following his marriage. If this is true then it seemscreditable that he may have been given a grant of this land by thatstate. In any event it is known that he emigrated to Pennsylvania. Hisson, Benjamin Babcock (2nd) resided at Bridgewater, Susquahanna County,Penn. until 1818. During that year he removed to what is now known asBabcock Hill, near the village of Windham, Penn. (Bradford County). Therecords of his other children have not been obtained to date of thiswriting.
Benjamin Babcock, Sr., served as a private in Captain SquireMillard's company of Colonel Waterman's regiment from Jan. 9, 1777 toFeb. 8, 1777; later served in the Pawtuxet Rangers. His father, ColonelNathan Babcock, was commander of the Kings County regiment of militia in1761 and probably commanded a sort of home guard during the Revolution,as the records show that artillery was stateioned on his land by order ofthe colonial officials.
Records show that Benjamin Babcock, Sr. purchased land in ForestLake (Bridgewater) Township in Susquehanna County, Penn. in 1810 fromRobert H. Rose, et al. And that Benjamin Babcock, Jr. purchased land inWindham Township (Bradford County, Penn.) in 1828 from Robert H. Rose; in1841 and 1847 from Charles S. Gorse, in 1847 from Caleb Carmalt; and in1854 from Uriah Wright.

HISTORY OF SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY., PENNSYLVANIA, by Emily C. Blackman,Philadelphia: Claxton, Remsen & Haffelfinger, 624, 626 & 628 MarketStreet, 1878. Chapter XXIV, Forest Lake, page 371.
In 1801, Benjamin Babcock came, and was the original settler of whathas since been known as "the Brock farm". In the spring of 1832, whileattending to his cattle, he was injured in the head by one of them, anddied from the effects. He had been a Revolationary soldier, and waseighty-two years old.

Not far from this time Frederick Brock, a German, located at"Brockville," five miles from Montrose, on the farm cleared by BenjaminBabcock.

From an e-mail from Gordon Clark at clark626@epix.net
Benjamin Babcock has no stone at all and we have found a rundown, vandalized, neglected former Cemetery on the property, but only thestones of several of the Brock Family are evident. The Brock familypurchased the Babcock property after the demise of Benjamin Babcock.
This cemetery and the Babcock property used to be on a road that ranthrough that area, but the road was abandoned by the township about1960-65 and you would not know that there ever was a road there.
My plan is to try to get another active cemetery in the area toplace the stone as a memorial site, since his remains are not identifedand the present site is unmaintainable, being approximantly a mile or sofrom the nearest road.

Death date from Val Van Zee at VaVZ@aol.com
After reading what you have on your web page about Benjamin I can addnothing except his date of death 6 Mar 1832, my records say atBridgewater. We appear to have the same source for the other data. I donot have a date of death for his wife, Desire, but it is said that shealso died at Bridgewater.
