  1. Anthony (Antoni) CZACHERSKI b. 13 Apr 1860, Borkowa, Sierpc, Plock, Poland; d. 16 Nov 1939, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA.

    Notes:
    BIRTH:
Anthony's birth date was given as June 13, 1867 on his death certificate.
The date of 1860 was obtained from his naturalization record. This date fits with his immigration information too (as found on the ship manifest) which shows him as 32 years old in 1892.
The informant on the death certificate was Bertha Josefkowicz (his daughter).

    CIACHERSKI, Anton age 68, b Poland Step-father-in-law

    address 4131 E 57th St.

Ship manifest lists Antoni (32) Czacherska travelling with Anna (36) and Bromiol (Bertha?) age 7. IF this is the same Anthony as our family's, it explains the link with Bertha, though doesn't really explain if she was real child of his or step-child. My family notes show that Bertha was raised by the Czacherski's.

Took care of the Wanicki children while Vincent was working. They didn't like him because he was frequently drunk. Their opinion of him was that he was a dirty, old man. He was a widower at this time.

Anthony was the Godfather of Isabel Wanicki (Pauline Cywinski was the Godmother. Pauline was Anthony's sister-in-law.).

    OCCUPATION:
For at least a few years, he was caretaker at St. Mary's Cemetery on E.71st St. Unable to verify this. St. Mary's has no employment records.

    DEATH:
Broncho-pneumonia. Informant was Bertha (Witwer) Josefkowicz of 4131 E.57th St. (his ward).

    BURIAL:
Date of death is totally unknown but it would have to be after 1930 because he baby sat the Wanicki children and the mother died that year and it is only because of her death that Anthony's services would have been needed by Vincent. And, since he is in the 1930 census, his death would have to be after that year (he was 68 years old at the time).
[UPDATE -- his death certificate was found which shows that he died in 1939.]

I believe he is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, E. 71st St., Cleveland, OH.. I called the cemetery 12 March 2003 to inquire if he was in their records but was told that all records prior to 1935 were lost in a fire. In any case, early records (I was told) were very sketchy, anyway. (Note: Infants were recorded in an Interment Log but no index cards were made out for them. Not that that is pertinent to this individual. I just include that information for future researchers.) It would require an extensive search of the gravestones to find him and/or his wife.
