Apparently was sent to Charlestown, Ma for his education, return
ing to New London in 1717at age 21. Samples of his handwritin
g show him to have been a superb penman.He was prominent in ch
urch affairs, and in 1724 the town meeting voted "that for the b
enefit of setting the psalm, Mr. Fosdick is seated in the thir
dseat at the end next the altar" (Town Meeting Minutes, 13 Ja
n 1723-24). From 1732 until his death in 1774 he functioned a
s a deacon. He was a member ofthe General Court in Hartford i
n 1740 and 1745). and he took a prominent part in the communit
y in relation to the French War in 1744 (Caulkins, p 389)He in
herited from his father the property on the waterfront of New Lo
ndon that today runs between Tilley St. and Golden St. His spac
ious home was inherited by his son Dr. Thomas Fosdick (Annals
, p 154)
