Hired by the Pilgrims pastor John Robinson when he made acquaintance with the Pilgrims at Leydon. Captain Standish lead most of the first exploring missions into the wintery surroundings at Cape Cod looking for a place to settle. Elected Military Captain , and organized the Pilgrims defenses against the Indians, and to protect the Colony from the French, Spanish, and Dutch.
