Did she die and he married second, Katherine? Katherine and Joseph bought the property on Sprague in 1905, so it seems more likely that she sometimes went by the name of Mary or the census taker was mistaken.

Property deed for 24 acres in Olmsted Township lists her first husband's name as Joseph Hajduch and gives his date of death.
