Generation: 4
  1. Stephen POST b. 27 Oct 1596, Hollingbourne, Kent, England; d. 16 Aug 1659, Oyster River Quarter, Saybrook, , Connecticut.

    Notes:
    Stephen Post was the first of our Post line to settle in North America. He settled in Connecut in 1634 with his wife and children. Stephen and his wife were married by banns and resided in Otham Kent England prior to coming to the United States. As sited by the writings of Nettie Leitch Major Author of C.W. Post the Hour and the Man Stephen was a follower of the Reverend Thomas Hooker, but due to the impending birth of a child, they sailed four months after the Griffen on which Hooker was the leader. Stephen Post's name appears on the monument as one of the co-founders of Hartford Connecticut at Hartford. He migrated to Saybrook,Connecticut where he purchased his first land in Oyster River in 1648. The ancestrial line of Stephen has been in question for many years by many researchers. It is strongly believed by most though that Abraham is his father. The ancestrial line above Abraham should be viewed with skepticism and accepted with much apprehension. Nothing above Abraham has yet to be proven with documentation. I have chosen to record it so if in the future it is proven with documentation to be correct and factual, then the work for my family is done. It is also there for them to remove it if it is proven with documention to be false. This note remains with my family tree records for them for the future.

    The information gathered on this family tree line came from the following sources:
    Genealogical infromation printed in The Post Family and the Beginning of Post Mills;
    Genealogical information printed in C.W.Post the Hour and the Man;
    Genealogies of Connecticut Families from the New England Historical and Genealogical Register;
    Connecticut Vital Records;
    The printed genealogical information from The Colonial Post family of Saybrook and Hebron,Connecticut:
    Abraham Post and his Descendants;
    Personal records and research records of Anne Powell;
    Personal records and research records of Debra Mann;
    Personal records and research records of Graham Post;
    Personal records and research records of Albert Post;
    Family Bible information taken from the Bible handed down to Ezekiel Post from his mother Mariah Post in 1851;
    Family Bible information taken from the Bible of Joseph Post;
    Ontario Census records 1851,1861;
    IGI records from the Church of the Latter Day Saints web site;
    And several other sources where people have provided their own descendant lines that are too numerous to mention.

    Founders of Hartford The following is a list of names of the Founders of Hartford that are engraved on the Founders Monument in the Ancient Burying Ground, also sometimes referred to as the "Old" or "Center" Cemetery.
