He is also listed in the 1880 census for Crawford as living with hisparents and his two children, Amanda and Orin. His wife, Huldah, had previously died in 1877.

    Notes:
    Silas Seager was born and raised in Phelps, New York. He later married AmeilaAmanda Barber while in New York. Silas and Amanda came by steam boat on Lake Erie with a large part of their house hold goods and probably also traveled withAmanda's parents. Family history states that they traveled by land to Lake Erie, and then continued by boat to the port city of Conneaut, Ohio. Across theborder, in Conneaut, Crawford, Pennsylvania, Silas and Amanda had three children, Charles, Orin, and Albert. Conneaut is situated in one of the choicest agricultural parts of the county, and the people, as a class, are noted for their intelligence and morality.

    Silas is listed in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880US census for Conneaut, Crawford, Pennsylvania, and died there at the age of 74.

    Notes:
    According to the 1870 census for Conneaut, Pennsylvania, Amelia Barber was bornin New York. Most of her ancestors originated from Massachusetts or Connecticut and were of English descent. Her 5th great grandfather was Thomas Hooker,who was a notable minister of Connecticut. From Hooker's sermons sprange the constitution of Connecticut, the first of the written American constitutions framed by the people for the people. It is also believed that Amelia Barber was adescendant of Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower. The Barber, Drake, Seager, and other families lived in the same communities and intermarried several times. Amelia and Silas were second cousins. They were both descendants of Thomas Barber, who was the first Barber in New England.

    Amelia moved to Crawford Co., Pennsylvania sometime before 1832 where she married Silias Hill Seager and they had three children, Charles Edward, Orin Barber, and Prince Albert.

    Elijah Barber was born and raised in Connecticut. Atthe age of 20 he married Rachel Hill of Simsbury, Connecticut and they had ninechildren. Sometime before 1809, the family moved acrossed the boarder in to New York State and eventually to Pennline, Crawford, Pennsylvania, where the family settled on land granted to his father after the Revolutionary War. Pennlineis situated in the western part of the township and distance is about half a mile from the Ohio line. It is surrounded by a tolerably good farming and dairycountry.

    Notes:
    The Hill line is from Norman origin from Worcestershire, England. The Hill coatof arms has three dog on the shield which signifies courage, vigilance, and loyalty. The color green on the shield signifies hope, joy, and loyalty in love.Rachel Hill's line has been traced back to Luke Hill, born about 1620 in England. He came to Connecticut sometime before 1651. Four additional generationsof the Hill line lived in Connecticut with John born in 1668, John born in 1702, Darius born in 1745, and Rachel born in 1784.

    Rachel's mother was Lois Moses. The Moses line has been traced back to John Moses who was born about 1604 in England and came to Plymouth Colony in 1640. His son, John, who was bornin about 1630, moved to Connecticut. The Moses line continued in Connecticut with John born 1654, John born 1681, Benoni born 1711, and Lois born 1749.

    Rachel and her husband, Elijah Barber are both descendants of the minister, Thomas Hooker, who was an intellectual and polictical leader, and to Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower.

    Rachel was born in Simsbury, Connecticut. Her fourth great grandfathers, John Griffin and Michael Humphrey, first crossed the Farmington River at "The Falls" in the 1640's. They were searching for virgin pine forest where they could pursue their tar and pitch business. What they found was averdant valley bounded by two low mountain ranges, rich with fish and wildlife. The native Massacoe Indians of the Algonquin Nation had lived off the bountyof the rich land and flowing river. The new settlers called the valley the "Massacoh Plantation".

    Joseph Phelps, Rachel's 2nd great grandfather, was one of thirty who received the first land grants in Simsbury.
