Notes:
~CORRESPONDENCE: Cheryl Bartkiewicz Maichl
I can tell you something that my mom told me many years ago that I still remember today..Schtika as they called him, mom told me was born in Poland and knew he would be hopping on the boat to come over to america and as the story goes...she said there was this Jewish owner of a textile store in Poland that used to cheat all the local people-she said Schtika would always talk about what a nasty man this guy was and how he didnt care if a family had food for their kids or not that he would take their last coin...anyways Mom said that Schtika knew he was leaving the country the next morning so he went over to this guys place and killed him...dont know how or anything-I dont think my mom knew how he did it either (I believe he had told my Dad in later years about this and told my dad in confidence that he would never tell anyone- which I dont think he did except for my mom) so the next day he fled the country...I thought oh my gosh all the years we went over there to a murderers house....a really gentle old man, I think something that guy did must have really pushed him over the edge. My sister thinks that maybe my Dad knew him from Stadlers down the hill - my dad worked there for a while and she thought maybe he did too and that how they knew each other...I always thought it was thru the lodge but I could be mistaken.
