    BIOGRAPHY: Amos, third son of Cornelius (q.v.), and Anna (Smith) Van Etten, wasborn in 1808, died in Port Jervis, new York, October 15, 1889. He received hiseducation in the country schools, and early engaged in the mercantile businessat Milford, Pennsylvania, which was his occupation throughout his active life.He married December 15, 1841, Lydia Cornelia Thrall, born June 15, 1841, in Milford, Pennsylvania, died December 11, 1898, in Port Jervis, New York, daughter of Samuel S. and Cynthia (Newman) Thrall. She became a member of the Dutch Reformed Church at Port Jervis in 1861. She was a descendant of one of the oldest families of the Delaware Valley of new England descent (see Thrall VII). Children: 1. Edgar, mentioned below. 2. John thrall, born 1846. 3. Samuel Southmead, 1848. 3. Anna, 1850, died twenty years old. 4. Amos, mentioned below. 5. Emma Lawrence, 1854, wife of C. F. Van Inwegen, of Port Jervis, New York, at whose home the mother passed her last days.

    Lydia Cornelia, eldest child of Samuel Southmayd and Cynthia (Newman) Thrall, was born June 15, 1818, in Milford. She married, December 15, 1841, Amos Van Etten, of that town, whom she survived, and died December 11, 1898 (see Van EttenVI).

    Samuel Southmayd, youngest child of Lemuel and Lydia (skinner) Thrall, was bornNovember 27, 1793, died at Milford, Pennsylvania, February 12, 1862. He resided for many years on the bluff at Milford, and subsequently on what is known asthe Thrall farm, one mile below the village of Milford. He married, June 1, 1817, Cynthia, daughter of Thomas and Cornelia (Randle) Newman. Children: 1.Lydia Cornelia, mentioned below. 2. Sally Ann, born August 13, 1820, marriedRev. William Burroughs. 3. Dorleska Elizabeth, December 24, 1826, became thewife of Egbert Jansen, lived at Vineland, New Jersey, and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 4. John, October 4, 1828. 5. Charles Filer, January 23, 1832, married Caroline Warner. 6. Frances, September 21, 1837, married AlexanderHenderson, lived in Philadelphia and died there. 7. Ralph B., January 9, 1840. 8.
