Bruce W. Mikkelsen, 54, the assistant principal at Palmer Elementary School in Chicago, died Saturday in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Mr. Mikkelsen was assistant principal and an 8th-grade teacher. He previously taught at Jefferson Elementary School. He was a referee for football and basketball leagues in Du Page County, coached Villa Park youth football for many years and taught Sunday school at St. Paul Lutheran Park in Villa Park. Survivors include his wife, Jo; two sons, Bruce Jr. and Brett; three daughters, Susan Rozhon, Karen and Pam Bermea; two brothers; a sister; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 545 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park
