From the "History of Dane County, WIs-1906" there is some additional information on the Hook & Gray relation under a biographical sketch for James C. Trotter. Mr. James C. Trotter, of the village of Oregon, remarried after his first wife died. He married Mrs Jeanette M. Gray, daughter of Cyrus and Marie (Crane) Paddock on 17 Oct 1885. There was no children from their union, but by her former marriage Mrs Trotter became the mother of two children: Arthur Gray, who married Miss Julia Southwick and resides in Watertown, SD; and Willis, who married Miss Alice Hook and resides in the town of Oregon.

Married. On Thursday evening last at Mrs. Stephen Hook's in the town of Brooklyn, Mr. Wm. Gray and Miss Alice Hook; also Mr. Chas. Richards and Miss Celinda Hook, all of Brooklyn. Rev. E. Robinson officiated. About sixty relatives and friends were present. We don't know about the Elder's marrying off whole families at once; it looks like a speculation on his part, but we hope it will bring joy to others.

From the "History of Dane County, Wisconsin-1880" under biographical sketches for the 'Town of Oregon' here are some excerpts for Stephen Hook, deceased, was born in Kent, England, in 1813; his parents came to America when he was about 15, and after a few years in the State of New York, went to Ohio. He married in Brooklyn Village, Cuyahoga, OH, in 1841, Miss Lydia Fish, born in 1818, in Hartford, CT; they spent the winters of 1842-43, in Union, Rock Co, WI and the next spring settled in Oregon (WI) on 240 acres on Sec 34. Mr Hook died Apr 9, 1880, leaving seven children --Calvin, Albert, Matilda A, Louisa J, Charles, Henry and Alice. Charles Hook was born Mar 9, 1851; Henry was born Sept 14, 1853. Charles Hook married in March, 1876, Sarah A. Mitchell; they have a son, Harold 'Harry' L., born Feb 25, 1878. They were Methodists.

Lydia Hook - Obituary

Lydia Hook, wife of Stephen Hook (deceased) May 6th, 1885. Mrs. Hook was born in Connecticut Feb. 21st, 1821; married July 5, 1841; came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1842; has resided in the town of Oregon about 40 years. She had been a christian from childhood, and a member of the M. E. church over 50 years. She was a kind neighbor and retained the confidence of all who knew her. She evinced the fact that a christian life - a life measuring up to the profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ - is the sweetest and best on earth. Her last words to her children were, "meet me in Heaven." She suffered much during her illness but bore up with great fortitude. Seven children - four boys and three girls, - with many relatives, mourn their loss. The funeral took place from the Brooklyn church May 8th, conducted by the pastor, C. C. Swartz.
