OBIT:
WILLIAM EARL FOSTER, 85, of Key Largo, FL, and Linville Ridge, NC, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007. Mr. Foster was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Toronto, Canada. In 1933 he moved with his family to Elyria, OH, which would become his home for much of his life. He had a very happy and active childhood, and it was during this time that he learned to bird hunt from his grandfather Claude Foster, with whom he enjoyed an especially close relationship. Mr. Foster graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1941. He credited Culver with teaching him the discipline and honor which would serve him well for the remainder of his life. In 1942 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army's field artillery. He subsequently joined the Army Air Corps where he served as a pilot and flight instructor for the remainder of the war. After his discharge, Mr. Foster took a job as a stock chaser at General Industries in Elyria, where he quickly ascended the ranks to become President in 1957. During his 15-year tenure the company flourished, increasing sales 10-fold and becoming the largest custom molder of plastics in the country. He served on the boards of many local businesses including the National City Bank of Cleveland, the Elyria Telephone Company, the Kasper Foundry Company and the Elyria Company. A major theme in Mr. Foster's life was serving his community. He was president of the Lorain County Sheriff's Advisory Council, the Elyria Country Club, the Lorain County Community Foundation, the Cleveland Chapter of the Young President's Organization and the Ocean Reef Art League. He also served as commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and as chairman of the Card Sound Sailing Club race committee. Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his son, William E. Foster Jr. who died serving his country in Vietnam, his wife, Mary Jo Foster and his parents, Earl and Frances Foster. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Foster, his brother, Donald Foster, his three children, and five grandchildren. I also had files of my e-mails and I had problems with the computer and so we reloaded the Window program and it wiped out al of my files and e-mail addresses. I am not sure of my source of information. You wrote that the father birth was Mass. on my site and not Conn. Came to Middleburg (previously called West View) about 1808. The area of Middleburg that he settled later became part of Berea. His brother, Ephraim, and youngest brother, John, lived near him. There may have been other brothers or relatives, too. I've seen mention of David, Philo, and Stephen Fowls/Fowles in the area but it's uncertain who these men were.
The 1820 census showed that there were probably 9 oh his children living in the home at the time, 3 males and 6 females. At least one historical account mentions that he had 10 children. Another says he had 8 boys and 2 girls.

Robert E. Ward HISTORY OF THE CLEVELAND GERMANS. See Chapter 1. The
surname Fowls appear to have been some form of Americanization of a German
name, perhaps from VOGEL, or GEFLÜGEL.
"Fowls Road in Middleburg Heights recalls a prominent family headed by
David L. Fowls (also Fowles) who is said to have been a German from
Hannover. He reportedly arrived in America as mercenary soldier in the
army of King George of England. In 1813, he followed his sons, Abram and
John, to Plumbfield, as Middleburg Heights was then called. According to a
family history, the father deserted to the American cause and served on
General Washington's staff as an interpreter.1 He died in Middleburg
Township in 1834. "

~Louie was from the Mayfield area of Cleveland, Little Italy. Lived near Saint Lukes Hospital, South Woodland area. Father had a Hardware Store with the Family name. He had sisters, did grandma say something about them being dead now?
He was killed in his driveway by a woman with a gun. At the time he was on Active Duty with the U.S. Air Force. The woman was convicted and was found insane at the time of the shooting.
~Louie was a "Cadet" at a base in Texas and Ruth went to his graduation.He was not supposed to be married, so they did not meet while he was in training. Louie was stationed in Florida and then in Harlingen, TX and later in the Charleston area. They had been there for about 2 years when he was killed. Ruth did not like Texas, to hot and sticky as told byGrandma Jo. Louie flew Air Force aircraft in Charleston, "he flewVIP's".
~Louie's mother died recently, she lived in Mayfield Heights (Cleveland,OH). Grandma knew here well. She had a "fancy place" there in MayfieldHeights.
Louie's dad had a Hardware store in the Shaker Square area "now allblack." They were divorced, some years ago. Grandma Jo knew Louie's dad,she had met him.
Grandma Jo said Louie was several years older then Ruth, and that he wasa nice man. He graduated from John Carrol University in Ohio.
Louie had sisters and brothers.

~Mom said Ruth was divorced from Louie at the time of his death. A recent divorce. She said Ruth was upset that she did not receive any deathbenefits, his new wife did. Who was the woman who killed him. Neednewspaper account.
~Lois said that the woman that shot Louie was his sister of his girlfriend, he was trying to breakup with her at the time. The trial was hushed up. she thinks the girlfriends father was military or retired military. The woman who shot him did it in his driveway, she was declared insane at the time of the shooting. Dad and mom drove Josephine down to SC for the funeral. Ruth and Louie were married at the time of the shooting.
~Ruth came to Cleveland one time after the incident and stayed in a hotelin Euclid, OH with the kids. Lois heard of the shooting from one of theCostilano's. The Franchina's were incensed, mamma Franchina was upset. The family wasvery Italian and she believes probably never had very much contact withJosephine, ethnic differences I think. Joey was ill at this time.
Paper trail for the pension of Louie is important, she thinks theMcMichael's probably knew of Ruth, "as the bunch was a bit on the wildside."
