1857 Alabama Baptist (South Western Baptist) May 7, 1857:
"Died near Burnsville, March 2?, Mrs. JANE WHITMAN, aged 31 years.
Death is always terrible, even in its mildest form, as it comes to the aged like sleep, but when herobes in his pale mantle those in the bloom of life and around whom the warmest affection of many hearts cluster, then is it truly an aspect of terror and dread.
Mrs. Whitman was a lady of superior merit. Kindness and gentleness in harmony with natural dignity were distinguishing traits in her character.
For many years she was a member of the Baptist Church, and her course was truly worthy of imitation. Religion was the guiding star which byrned over her pathway and taught her to shun all evil through her life.
She bore her illnesswith unsurpassed fortitude. Resignation bore its impress on her brow, and with the ious calmness of a christain she awaited her appointed time and yielded her spirit in quiet sleep as with the expiring breath of an infant. Her last hours were truly triumphant. She spoke encourageingly of death and heaven with calmness, and exhorted family and friends to meet her on that bright and better shore.
She leaves a husband and two lovely little children who will never know a mother's love or retain for after years a single recollection of her being. An only sister, an aged mother, together with an extensive circle of relatives and friends to mourn her.
The spring flowers have not yet begun to spring o'er her grave, but her memory is already farlanded with a wreath in which returning seasons can lend no bloom nor time give a brighter beauty.
[NOTE: There is no mention of husband, Robert M. Whitman.]

Daniel (4) Halladay lived in Suffield until his marriage in 1760 when he removed to Simsbury settling near "Higleytown", so called, the home of his wife's father.
One of the gifts of David Higley of Simsbury to his daughter Anna after her marriage to Daniel Halladay was the deed to a lot "in Simsbury aforesaid onthe north side of the (Farmington) river in Thurkey Hills society." This deedis dated Aug. 15, 1761, and is recorded in the Simsbury records Book 8, Page 441.
This land was situated in that part of Simsbury now within the limits of East Granby and nearly opposite the village of Tariffville. The locality was known as the Turkey Hills Society. The records of this society which antedates the town of East Granby, show that Daniel Halladay served as one of the school committee for the years 1771-2-3-4-5-8-1780-1 and 6, nine years in all. In 1774,he was upon a committee to treat with a minister whom the society proposed tocall, and was one of the 17 "tavern keepers" elected by the society to entertain guests at the installation of the new minister on Nov. 27, 1776. In 1786, just before his removal from town the northerly portion of the town was set offas a separate town by the name of East Granby and this included within its boundaries the Turkey Hills Society.
About 1788 or a little later he removed withhis family to Marlboro, Vt. Two of his sons, Daniel Jr. and Eli, had settled in Marlboro previously, about 1780 and had bought 100 acres of wild land which has been until recently in the hands of Daniel's descendants and it was to thisfarm that Daniel came and here he lived until his death.
His sons Daniel Jr. and Eli were prominent men in Marlboro, occupying the offices of selectmen, moderator of town meetings, representative to the General Court, etc.
Daniel (4) Halladay died at Marlboro, Vt. Jan. 21, 1818 aged 82, and his wife Anna on the 15th of April 1819 aged 81. Both died at the house of their son Daniel. (See Newtons Mss. History of Marlboro in State Library, Montpelier).
ANNA (4) HIGLEY, wife of Daniel (4) Halladay was the daughter of David and Anna (Owen) Higley, born at Simsbury Aug. 19, 1738. | Daniel H HALLADAY

Dear Ken:
Hooray! Eli is our mutual forefather and I have some further infothat you must not have.
Great Aunt Anna Halladay Anderson wrote two pages ofHALLADAY history for me and I'll quote it for you. This was written in the 1950's.

======================================================================
Note: I typed this as written, spelling and all. Horace's 3rd son, Clark and Susan (Tyler) Halladay is my line. My father was Russell Halladay Washburn and his mother Charlotte(Halladay) Washburn died in childbirth when he was 3 yrs. old. He was taken to KS and raised by Charlotte and Anna's sister, Edith
Halladay Smith & husband. Aunt Anna was wonderful to keep in touch with, besides we shared birthdays (and also with Daniel-Feb. 26, 1736). She was a DAR member using all the above information.
Do you have further information on the early HALLADAYs: Walter, William, William and Daniel? Where in Scotland did they live? I've been toScotland several times and always wondered just where they were from. Beautiful country.
I'm anxious to hear more from you.
