This Mary Hanes/Hains may or may not be the sister or duplicate entry of Margaret Jane Ann Hanes, spouse of Matthias Shanor/er, son of David. Their husbands may or may not be the same people. Their children may or may not be erroneous entries or they may be named after one another, if so, their years of birth may be 1 year off or so. If the wives/children in these two families are crossed, the Mary Hanes (with her children) that is the spouse of Matthias, son of David Shanor, seems to be more valid than Matthias, son of Matthias.[shanor.FTW]
[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 3, Ed. 1, Tree #2491, Date of Import: Jan 30, 2000]
The 1840 census for Beaver, New Sewickley shows the Matthias Shanor family: 1 male and 1 female between 20-30; 2 boys under 5; a girl 5-10.
1850 census shows Mary Shanor as head of household in New Sewickley twp, Beaver Co. with children Margaret, David, Abraham, Ruth, Martin, Ellen, and Arvina.
1860 census in Meigs Co, Salem twp with husband John Miller (farmer, personal property value $100), children Adesin and Martin (day laborer). Mary and both children born PA. Is Martin a Shanor or a Miller (probably a Shanor)? Why are none of the Shanor children with Mary? Most would have been in their late teens. What about Ellen and Arvina? An Ellen Shanor, age 13, was in HH of Jacob Mirser/Maser, Meigs, Rutland 9/8 1860. Martin at that age was likely Martin Shanor. Abraham was likely the A. Shanor with wife and child in Rutland Twp., 1860.
Mary signs for her share of Abraham's estate with an X. Her husband signs his name in German.
Per Joyce Davis: Coy Hill Cemetery in Salem Twp., John Miller, d. Feb 25, 1868, age 70 yr, 14 (sci) mo. Probably the correct John Miller. Also there is a Joseph E. Miller, d. 1871, son of J. & M. Miller, theirs?
Marriages of Scioto Co., OH list:
David Shaner m. Hannah M. Hitchcock 28 Oct 1858
David Shaner m. Elzina Vangorder 06 Feb 1860
James Shaner m. Susan Deamer 18 Sep 1859
One of these David's is probably her son, but who is James?
More marriages of Scioto Co., OH:
Piersol Shaner m. Sophia Laughlin 16 Jul 1857
"He is 43, born Beaver Co., PA (about 1814), resident of Madison Twp., son of David Shanor, second marriage. She is
27(26), born and resides Madsion Twp., dau of Jacob and Cynthia Bennett, second marriage." Piersol is a relative of Matthias'. In Early Court records of Scioto Co., is a death record of Sarah Shaner, d. 5 Apr 1857, age 41 1/2, born PA, parents J. & S. Boren. This is likely Piersol's first wife, probably related to Margaret (Boren).[shaner.FTW]
This Margaret Jane Ann Hanes/Hains may or may not be the sister or duplicate entry of Mary Hanes, spouse of Matthias Shanor/er, son of David. Their husbands may or may not be the same people. Their children may or may not be erroneous entries or they may be named after one another, if so, their years of birth may be 1 year off or so. Last Tuesday evening about forty young people were entertained at the pretty country home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Smith, in honor of their son and bride, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Caddie Smith. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene C. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Lindley. The dining room was prettily decorated with ferns and flowers, and was in charge of Miss Honor Stair. The table was decorated with white satin ribbon and ferns. Delicious refreshments were served by the Misses Hazel Hankinson and Ethelyn Smith; Misses Maud Gillies and Nettie Knudtson presided over the chocolate urn. A musical and literary program was a pleasant feature of the evening's entertainment. The married ladies were entertained at the Smith home on Wednesday afternoon.
