4843 OCCUPATION: Court reporter. Handled some depositions for Sam Shepherd.

Spoke with her 19 Apr 2002. Asked her about Priskienis surname being used by her father. She confirmed that he did use that name from time to time -- she had seen it on some of his papers, like his naturalization papers. She didn't have any idea why he used it and stated that her uncle Mike Batulewich and others in the family all used Batulewich, though Mike (who lives in Detroit) changed his name to BUTLER. I also inquired about her grandmother's death (Karoline Juczkievitie) because I had been told she had died as the result of a fall. Anna said that her mother, Ona, had told her that her grandmother had died in childbirth with Ona. Anna didn't know anything else about the family in Lithuania.

CLEVELAND -- Casmere K. Batule was a real estate broker in Parma before he bacame a lawyer in Cleveland in 1955.
His legal aspirations got a big boost in 1953 when Cleveland's police prosecutor hired him to screen complaints.
He heard 100 stories a day. "all the law books in the world couldn't explain what goes on in this office day by day, " he said in 1954. In a Plain Dealer feature about Mr. Batule, Chief Police prosecutor Bernard J. Conway said at the time: "He saves us hours of daily work by handling that mob outside the office. When a case comes into our office for a hearing, we know it's a bona fide police complaint."
The contacts he made at the real estate office and the prosecutor's office made it possible for Mr. Batule to open a practice when he graduated from law school in 1955, according to his sister, Anne Barton of Cleveland.
Mr. Batule, 76, of Cleveland, died of heart failure Tuesday at Lakewood Hospital after receiving kidney dialysis.
He was working in both his professions up until his death. On Monday, he appeared in court on behalf of a client. Tuesday morning, he worked in the real estate office on Snow Rd.
He was born in Cleveland to Anna and Banadas Batulewish, immigrants from Lithuania. He changed his name to Batule after graduating from college. From 1959 to 1962, Mr. Batule worked as an assistant attorney general for Ohio. In his law practice, most recently on W. 25th St., he did a lot of free work for the poor. In addition to brokering properties for others, he invested in residential real estate in Parma and Cleveland.
Mr. Batule enjoyed cooking and was owner of the former Gallagher Steak House at E.32nd St. and Euclid Ave. from 1971 until he sold the business in 1986.
In addition to his sister, Mr. Batule is survived by his son, Casey of Cleveland.
Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Yurch Funeral Home, 5618 Broadview Rd., Parma.
