PINE ISLAND RECORD
MAY 31, 1906
Fred Chapman, a dissolute character formerly living in the village, figured in a sensational shooting affray on the island across from Red
Wing last Wednesday evening. He became involved in a quarrel with Mrs. Chas. Cook, manager of one of the dives for which the island is notorious and the woman drew a shotgun and fired at Chapman at short range and as a result Chapman lies at St. John's Hospital dangerously wounded, though it is said he will recover.
PINE ISLAND RECORD
JULY 26, 1906
May Cook, who shot Fred Chapman on the island a few months ago, was taken before Justice Curry at Judge Hager's Court yesterday, charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. She waived examination and was held in $1000 bail, which she furnished. She then swore out a warrant for Chapman demanding that he give bonds to keep the peace. The justice ordered Chapman to give bonds for six months and as he was unable to do so, he was taken to Ellsworth where he will have to go to jail unless he can get somebody to go his bonds.
RED WING REPUBLICAN
