By 1870, his 1st wife has died and he is now remarried to Mattie (maiden name unknown) -- a woman 14 years younger than he is. (her age might be incorrect in the 1870 census, as the 1900 census gives her birth info as Aug 1839) The children are not listed in the 1870 census. Are they deceased or living with relatives?
