- Elizabeth is sometimes listed as Elizabeth Cochran as she was first married to William Cochran.
Elizabeth had a brother , William Matthews, who was a Presbyterian preacher and wed his sister Elizabteth to Adam Poe.
Place of birth also listed as "Northwest Coast, Irleand".
Elizabeth's first husband, William Cochran, died on the Ohio River while she was pregnant. This would have been 1774-75. This child was Rebecca, who eventually married John Hook.
Her maiden name is also listed as Mathew.
Some say birth year is 1756. Elizabeth came to America when she was 12 years old.
Buried in Cemetery #16, (German) Reform Church Cemetery, Tuscarawas Twp., Stark Co., OH.[George Jacob Poe.FTW]

Elizabeth was the widow of a William Cochran who was killed by Indians
in 1774. She was an immigrant from the NW coast of Ireland and her maiden name is unknown.
Various guesses have her named Smith - Cadman - Matthews.
42-5 1774 Elizabeth was pregnant with Rebecca when William Cochran was killed.
William had no other children recorded in the WV Collection.
42-5 Glen Hook stated that his great-great-grandfather was John Hook
(1747-1836), son of Mathias Hook who was founder of Hooksville, PA. John Hook married Rebecca Cochran (1775- ), daughter of William Cochran and Elizabeth Cadman.
16-2 1939 Sally (Poe) Kuffle claimed that Adam was married twice. He had, by his first marriage in PA, one daughter born. She said that Adam's daughter by his first marriage was Barbara who married a Mr. Cochran of PA. Adam's second marriage was to Betsey Matthews, widow of William Cochran. Betsey was an immigrant from Ireland. She came to this country when she was 12, the sister of a Presbyterian minister named William Matthews. Sally claimed that his brother, Andrew, born 1742, was six years older than Adam.
