    • This information was found in the National Archives Records.
      Adam Shelby Shaner, served in the Civil War or the War of the Rebellion. He
      enlisted in the 18th Ohio Volunteer Regiment on 2 October 1861.
      He was in Company G. He served three years. He was discharged on 6 February
      1863 at Nashville, Tennessee for a disability. During his term of service he
      was appointed a Corporal on 24 Oct 1861.
      The following is a statement made by Adam Shelby Shaner in his Declaration for
      an original Invalid Pension:
      He States:
      He contracted chronic diorrhora and piles and chills and fever. He further
      states taht while at Nashville, Tennessee on or about December 18, 1862 while
      loading comissary stores, he injured his left hand by being caught between the
      wagon box and a barrel when his colored assistant with more force than
      necessary pushed the barrel up, there by crushing he hand, where it had once
      been injured before the war. The last injury caused pieces of bone to come
      out and permanently disable the hadn resulting in an "aucholosis of the left
      wrist". He further states that chills and fever resulted in reheumatism.
      His pension was granted. he originally filed for pension on 19 Nov 1888, and
      was paid $12.00 a month, when granted 28 Jul 1890
      He moved to Madison Township, Franklin Count, Ohio about 1869. He is listed
      in "The History of Madison Township, Franklin County, Ohio" a book published
      in 1902 by George F. Baries. It shows that Adam operated a repair shop form
      1870-1890. He also listed as Marshal of Canal Winchester, from 1873-1875.
      Adam S. Shaner was also listed as Mayor of Groveport, Franklin County, Ohio.
      In 1892 (Robert A. Shaw and Adam Shaner each had 78 votes, a tie, lots were
      cast and Mr. Shaner won. On March 8, 1893, Mr. Shaner had a stroke of
      paralysis and Robert A. Shaw was appointed for the balance fo the term.) Adam
      S. Shaner was paralysed until his death on 12 Feb 1897
      After the death of his first wife, he married Mrs. Sarah Alspach on 21 Aug
      1884, in Franklin County, Ohio.
      She had been married twice before and had children from her first marriage.
      She died 9 Jul 1900, in Groveport, Franklin County, Ohio
