According to information obtained in April 1995, there is reason to believe
that the correct birthdate for Joshua H. Shaner, was 26 MAR 1829 not 11 Apr
1829. This information came from the Records of "Deaths" in Perry County, Ohio
Joshua H. Shaner was in the Civil War. He enlisted in Company D, 31st
Regiment Ohio Volunteers on 5 Sep 1861 at New Lexington, Ohio. He was
discharged on 19 Sep 1864 at Atlanta, Georgia.
In the "History of Madison Township, Franklin County, Ohio" his is listed as
Street Commisioner of Canal Winchester for 1877, he resigned. Also listed in
1882-1883, he moved away. He returned to Perry County, Ohio.
He was a carpenter. He was a Civill War Veteran Co. D, 31st a teamster for
General Thomas Marriage record Vol. 2-3 p.209 Perry County, OH
His wife Margaret is listed as Chief Templar in the Groveport Lodge 400, I.O.G.
T., a temperance movement when it was instituted 17 Dec 1872.
Joshua and Margaret are both listed in Perry County, records as having died
there in Pike Township, Ohio. They are listed as being in the same plot as
Adam Shelby Shaner, in Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester, Ohio.
