  REFN: 5240 Smith Rome Chapman, son of Simeon Chapman, was born near Marietta,Oh io on May 15, 1827. Smith Chapman worked on the farm and also learne d thetrade of brick making. He also worked as a hand on flat boats , which ran from Marietta to New Orleans. He was joined in Marriage t o Deborah Spearson August 11, 1853. Deborah Spears was born Jan. 19 1 833, and died Nov. 2, 1859. Sheis buried in Bethel Cemetery, Okaw To wnship, six miles Northeast of Shelbyville, IL. In 1856, Mr. Chapma n moved by covered wagon, from Marietta, Ohio, to a farm about 1 mil e north of Shelbyville, IL.
