      RUSSELL STANTON (1799-1875)

Russell Stanton, sixth child of Henry and Martha
(Davis) Stanton was born in Norwich, Connecticut, April 20,
1799. Russell married Lucy C. Northway in 1841 in Caton,
New York. Lucy was born in Vermont, in 1809.
Their oldest child, Francis Russell Stanton, was born
in Caton, New York, February 8, 1843.
Russell and Lucy moved to Illinois between February,
1843, (Francis' birth) and November, 1844 (daughter Martha's
birth). Their three daughters Martha, Lucy and Mary were all
born in Illinois between November, 1844, and June, 1851. (Stanton Genealogy)
The family was still living in Kane County, Illinois,
in 1860 Federal census, 1860). It was here that Francis enlisted in the 8th
Illinois Cavalry on September 12, 1861 (Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, 1901).
In the 1860 census, Russell listed his occupation as
"farmer". In the Stanton Genealogy, he is described as "a
baptist, a farmer, a Whig, and a Republican."
He died in August, 1875. His wife, Lucy, was still
      living in 1891 (Stanton Genealogy).
