      OBIT:
      Peter J. Karaba, engineer for Centerior The Plain Dealer; Cleveland, Ohio; Jul 12, 1991; Peter J. Karaba was director of transmission and distribution engineering for Centerior Energy, the parent company of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co.
      Mr. Karaba, 46, died Wednesday at Southwest General Hospital. He had cancer.
      He joined CEI as an engineering aide after he graduated from Benedictine High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in civil engineering while working full time.
      He also earned a certificate from the Power Systems Engineering program at General Electric Co. headquarters in Schenectady, N.Y.
      His most recent assignment placed him in charge of the design and planning for all overhead and underground wires and substations that CEI has in Greater Cleveland, as well as those in the service area it co-owns with Toledo Edison.
      He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, where he coached football, basketball and softball. His teams won many championships, but he emphasized development and teamwork as the team's most important goals.
      He also particiapted in the Christian Family Movement at the church.
      Surviving are his wife, Joanne; sons, Peter Jr. and Brian; a daughter, Sandra; and a brother.
      Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow (SATURDAY) at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 14865 Bagley Rd., Middleburg Heights.
