1 NOTE Beatrice Lowther was the oldest child of Stillman F. and SarahVictoria (Davis) Lowther of Salem, West Virginia. She andDwight Clarke met at the Seventh Day Baptist General Conferencein Salem in 1903. She, her three sisters and a brother were allmusicians, probably influenced by their father who played theviolin. After graduating from Salem College, Beatrice spent ayear at Alfred University, NY, before being appointed head ofthe music department at Salem College. After her marriage andmove to Wisconsin, life on a dairy farm must have been quite ashock, but she handled it very well. Following the move fromthe farm into town, she gained an enviable reputation for hercooking and was very active with church dinners, summer camps, etc. She was an excellent seamstress and very active in severalwomen's organizations. She suffered a fatal fall alone in herhome the Sunday after Thanksgiving 1954.A neighbor foundherunconscious and she was rushed to the hospital but neverregained consciousness.
