      R. J. GREENMAN, lumber dealer, Milton Junction; born in AlleganyCo., N.Y., July 24, 1840; son of Henry G. and Mary B., who cameto Milton, Wis., in the spring of 1857; they had four sons; R.J. was the youngest; he was educated at the Milton Academy; wentintothe lumber business in May, 1863; the house he built andused for an office wasthe first building at the Junction; hassince built several buildings in the village. He married MissLois P. COLLINS, daughter of Dr. B. F. and Tacy A. COLLINS (oldsettlers); they have had three children, two living - Mary Floy,born Nov. 11, 1863; Bertie, born Jan. 16, 1867, died Aug. 7,1869; Stella, born April 12, 1871. Mr. R. J. was electedJustice of the Peace about 1863; held office tenyears; wasSupervisor one term. Liberal in religion and independent inpolitics.

      REYNOLDS J. GREENMAN, a leading citizen and lumber-dealer, andeditor of theNews, of Milton Junction, Wis., is a son of H. G.GREENMAN and a native of New York, born in Hornellsville, July24, 1840. When eleven years of age he came with the family toMilton, where he has since made his home. His education wascompleted at the academy, now the college of Milton, near theparental home. He assisted his father in business during hisvacations and leisure hours, and also made a thorough study ofthe law. His arrangements at one time were all made to beginthe practice of that profession, but he abandoned the plan inorder to engagein other business. His knowledge of law,however, has been a great value to him as well as to some of hisfellow-citizens. He has been counselor to the wholecommunity,many people coming to him for advice. Being of a kindlydispositionhe has always used his best endeavors to preventlitigation, thereby preventingmuch bitter feeling and savingthe parties considerable money, which would otherwise have beenspent in lawyers' fees.
      On March 25, 1862, Mr. GREENMAN was married to Miss Lois P.COLLINS, daughter of Dr. F. B. and Tacy A. COLLINS, the marriageceremony being performed in Milton by the Rev. W. C. WHITFORD.Her parents,as is also Mrs. GREENMAN, were natives of AlleganyCounty, N.Y.; her father, B.F. COLLINS, was born on the 4th dayof November, 1813, and her mother, Tacy A. BABCOCK, on Nov. 30,1823. Lois P. COLLINS was born at Alfred Center May 30, 1842.Mr. COLLINS died at Milton Oct. 10, 1864, and his wife passedaway at St. Peter, Minn., on the 2d day of February, 1888. Theywere highly respected Christianpeople. Of the three childrenborn to Mr. and Mrs. GREENMAN two are yet living, namely: MaryFloy, born at Milton Junction Nov. 11, 1863, who on the 30th dayof June, 1886, became the wife of F. R. MORRIS, the presentpostmaster and jointproprietor and local editor of the MiltonJunction News; and Stella A., born atMilton Junction April 12,1871, who is still with her parents. Bertie GREENMANwas bornJan. 16, 1867, and died Aug. 7, 1869.
      In 1863 Mr. GREENMAN entered upon his business career as alumber dealer, at Milton Junction, and immediately afterlocating in that place was elected to the office of Justice ofthe Peace, serving in that capacity for ten years. He built thefirst private residence on the village plat of Milton Junction,and his lumber office was the first buildingon Merchant's Row,now the principal business street in the town. He is liberalinreligious sentiment, sympathizing with the doctrine ofUnitarianism, and is independent in politics. He hascontributed liberally to every church in the place and also toevery enterprise calculated to advance the interests of thepublic. He has advocated a liberal educational policy, andserved almost continuouslyon the School Board of the district.He served six years on the town Board of Supervisors, and forfive consecutive years was chairman of that body.
