    • BIOGRAPHY: Thayer and Burton Ancestry , Page 105 SILVANUS SCOTT, son of John and Rebecca ((???)) Scott, was born at Pawtucket Falls, R. I., November 10, 1672, and in 1692 married Joanna Jenckes, daughter of Joseph and Esther (Ballard) Jenckes, of Providence. Not long after he settled at Smithfield. He was twice appointed deputy, in 1709 and again in 1717, and was a member of the town council for six years. In 1716 he was granted liberty, with two others, 'to use and improve so much of Starve Goat Island as shall be needful for their making, drying and securing of fish on said island during their following the trade of fishing.' He died January 13, 1742, leaving an estate valued at o3,664. Among the items inventoried was a 'negro man,' valued at o60. Two years later, upon the death of his wife, the same negro man is inventoried as 'worth nothing.' Genealogy of Wilkinson and Kindred Families , Page 60- Author: M.M. Francis Marbury, of Alford, Lincolnshire and London; Priest; baptized 27 October 1555; ordained deacon 7 January 1577-8; ordained priest 24 June 1605; d. shortly before 11 February 1610-11. He m. (2) ca. 1587 Bridget Dryden, dau. of the above John. She was b. 1563 or after, as under age, 1584. She m. (2) Rev. Thomas Newman, of Bernhamsted Herts and d. shortly' before 2 April 1645. Children among others: 17 Katherine Marbury, b. in 1617; d. 2 May 1689, at Newport, Rhode Island, when her age is given in the Quaker Records as seventy years. (Arnold VII, p. 119). She m. 7 June 1632 at Breakhamstead, Hertfordshire, where her nother was residing, Richard Scott, of Gorlston, Suffolk. They came to America 1634 in the ship 'Griffin,' (See New England Register, Vol. 60. Phillimore, Hertfordshire Parish Register Vol I. p. 23), settled in Boston, Mass., due to the religious persecutions, they moved to Salem thence to Rhode Island. He was one of the original founders of the Rhode Island Plantation. He was representive in the General Assembly, andk, in 1650, there was but one man in Providence who paid higher tax. His family consited of two sons and four dughters. He died 1681-2. Children: (1) John, b. ca. 1634; d. 1677; m. ca. 1659. They had six children, all born in Rhode Island. They were: (1) Sarah, b. 29 September 1662 in Providence (2) John, Jr., b. 14 September 1664; d. after 1698 (N. Y. G. & G Record, Vol. 47, p. 254) (3) Mary, b. 1 February 1666; d. after 1698 (4) Catherine, b. 20 May 1668; d. after 1698 (5) Deborah, b. 24 December 1669; d. after 1698 (6) Sylvanus, b. 10 November 1672; died June 13, 1742; m. 1692, Joanna Jencks (Savages Dic. in loc.) 19 Sylvanus Scott, b. 10 November 1672, in November 1672, in Providence; d. June 13, 1742 in Rhode Island; m. 1692, Joanna Jencks in Rhode Island, b. 1672, d. 12 March 1756, dau. of Joseph Jencks, Jr., one of the early settlers of Rhode Island whose son, Joseph III, became Governor of Rhode Island.
