Notes |
- IMMIGRATION:
Per Julia Kapusta Rozhon, Ludwig, Anthony, and Henry arrived in the U.S. in 1906 after leaving Poland to avoid the military draft, however, on the 1920 Census, Ludwig listed 1902 as his arrival date in the U.S. He also is listed as PA under the column for Aliens/Naturalized -- which may mean he filed papers by 1920.
OCCUPATION:
Grocer/Butcher - Ran a meat market at 3701 West 14th Street, Cleveland, Ohio.
BIOGRAPHY:
In Poland, Ludwig lived across the river from Hedwig, but didn't meet her till he was in the U.S. He and his family were uneducated because there were no schools in the small town of Mielec. In the U.S., he settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He built a "Sears & Roebuck" house at 3705 West 14th Street, where he lived the remainder of his life. His butcher shop was next door on the corner of West 14th Street and Redman Ave. He raised chickens in the coop in the backyard. He also owned two lots directly across the street from his home (westerly side of W.14th) where he had a large garden plot. In this garden, he had several bee hives, and at various time had a goat and turkeys.

1930 - 3705 W.14th St. (ED77, Sheet 4A, Lines 17-22, Ward 6) PARCEL NUMBER 008-28-063
