  • Notes
    • Name originally spelled VANIKIUTIS (?)

IMMIGRATION: Per her naturalization papers, Anna departed from Rotterdam, Holland on the SS Rotterdam and arrived 7 Jul 1909 in New York City. Attempts to locate her entry in the ship's manifest have been fruitless, so far. She would have been listed as "Ona Vanickiutis" according to information she provided on her naturalization papers. The Morton Allen Ship Directory does not list the Rotterdam as having arrived in July. Most years the Rotterdam arrived in June or August. She had to have arrived before April 1910 because at that time she appears on the 1910 census.

MARRIAGE: Married at St. Casimir's Church on Sowinski Avenue, Cleveland by Rev. J. Halaburda.
Marriage license (v92, pg 30) lists WANICKA, ANNA and PRISKIENIS, BENDATAR
      (copy in my possession)
** Who is Bendatar Priskienis? Or was there a misunderstanding of what they were saying? **
**Note added 1 Nov 2002: Anna Batulewich told me that for some reason Ona's husband occasionally used this alternate name. She did not know why but had found some other papers that mentioned it. I'm wondering if perhaps he had been using a step-father's name?**
