    • THE MAIN TREE II, Second Edition, by Nancy (Portor) Childress, 1995. page177.
Reubin said he was of age, joined the Union Army as a drummer boy (hewas 14). After the war when he was 18 he married Fascellina. They came toTexas Co., Montana from Illinois. After guiding the wagon trains of hisfamily from Illinois to Kansas, Reuben was in demand as a wagon masterfrom Illinois to Montana and Kentucky to Montana. He received a Kansasland grant and later bought land in Bates Co., Montana between Rich Hilland Hume. He farmed, drove a state coach, was a teamster for ahouse-drawn fire engine in Rich Hill, was a rural mail carrier(horse-drawn carriage). In 1885 Fascellina was driving a team and wagonto Hume when something frightened the team and they ran and was turnedover. She died in the arms of her son Felix and is buried in LawrenceCemetery. Later Reuben married Caroline, who had two children by anothermarriage. Felix said that she showed so much favoritism to her childrenand mistreated Reuben's younger ones that he and Ben ran her off. Afterthis Reuben married Maggie and they raised an adopted daughter Lucille.Reuben carried the mail until just before he died in 1925. He left hisfavorite horse "Old Slim" and his watch to Felix Eddie, his grandson.
