    • MARRIAGE: WROBLEWSKI, HELEN and BOIARD, HECTOR v.0130 pg.0122 (Cuyahoga County Marriage Index)
Helen was married to the man who was famous for his canned spaghetti products, Chef Boyardee.

OBIT: Helen J Boiardi, 90, of Chef Boy-ar-dee-il-Obit Plain Dealer 04 Jul, 1995, pg. 7 sec. B BOIARDI, HELEN J: Wife of late Hector-Obit Plain Dealer 04 Jul, 1995, pg. 6 sec. B

OBIT: HELEN J. BOIARDI, 90, OF CHEF BOY-AR-DEE
Plain Dealer, The (Cleveland, OH) July 4, 1995 Author: RICHARD M. PEERY PLAIN DEALER REPORTER

OBIT: When Helen J. Boiardi's son was a toddler, she would place him in an empty spaghetti box to play safely while she worked in a makeshift food factory above the restaurant her husband, Hector, operated on Woodland Ave. Mrs. Boiardi would use a long pole to stir large vats of sauce that was poured into jars for customers to pick up on their way home from work.

OBIT: The business grew quickly until it became known throughout the world for its "Chef Boy-ar-dee" packaged spaghetti dinners.

OBIT: "We were happy working together," Mrs. Boiardi said when her husband died in 1985. "In 62 years we didn't have quarrels like the kind people have today."

OBIT: Mrs. Boiardi died yesterday at her home in Shaker Heights. She was 90.

OBIT: She was born in Cleveland. She began working in food service as a pantry girl at the new Wade Park Manor Hotel, which is now the Judson Park retirement home. She soon switched to the Winton Hotel and met her husband, who was the chef there. The hotel was later known as the Pick Carter.
The Boiardis were married in 1923. The next year they opened Boiardi's restaurant on Woodland Ave. near E. 9th St. Because so many customers asked for takeout orders of the spaghetti sauce, the Boiardis found themselves in the packaged food business as well.

OBIT: Mrs. Boiardi worked with her husband until 1934, three years before the food plant was moved from a building on Harvard Ave. to a large factory in Milton, Pa. The company, a pioneer in convenience food preparation, was sold for several million dollars to American Home Products of New York in 1946. Hector Boiardi continued to operate restaurants in Cleveland, including Chef Hector's off E. 9th St. near Euclid Ave.

OBIT: Mrs. Boiardi is survived by a son, Mario of Queenstown, Md.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother.

OBIT: Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Heights. Arrangements are being handled by the Brown-Forward Funeral Home of Shaker Heights.
