In 1856 they removed to Minnesota; again, to Kansas, in 1858. He wasan active Free-State man, using all his influence to make Kansas a freeState. He enlisted in the Civil War, June 23, 1863, as a private in Co.C, 14th Kansas Vols. and was mustered out of the service as 2ndLieutenant. He took an active interest in the political affairs of theState, as a Republican, and as represented the State in the StateLegislature. He was Commissioner and Notary Public; admitted to the barin 1889; Judge in the Thirty-fourth Judicial District of the State,practising in the State courts and the Interior Department at Washington,DC. He has been a member of the I.O.O.F. for nearly fifty years, and is aFree Mason. Judge Mowry, since the death of his wife, mades his home withhis oldest son, Eugene L., at Lucerne, Kansas.
