- Herringshaw's Encyclopedia of American Biography of the 19th Centurycontains the following entry: "Maryott, E. Edgar, physician, author, wasborn Sept. 29, 1845 in North Stonington, Mass. [sic]. He is the author ofthe New Medical World, a popular work on hygiene and progressivemedicine."
The New Medical World, pg. 555 gives a brief biography of the author: " [. . . ] the publishers have compiled this brief sketch from "Stone'sBiography of Eminent Physicians and Surgeons" and "The BiographicalReview of Hampden County." -- born North Stonington, Ct., Sept. 29th,1845, -- father, a clergyman of strong character, possessing variedgifts, -- mother, Almira Miner of Stonington, Ct., descended from oldColonial ancestry, -- educated in the public schools of his native town,-- prepared for college at Suffield, Ct., -- graduated from BrownUniversity 1870 -- belongs to the famous class of which President Andrewsis a member, -- received the degree of A.M. from Brown in 1873, --
studied medicine with Prof. Albert VanderVeer, -- received the degree ofM.D. at the completion of a course in the Albany Medical College, -- oneof the prominent physicians and surgeons of Springfield, Mass, -- is aman of literary tastes, -- qualified both by education and experience forthe preparation of such a work, -- the commendations received already
