Donna Jean Yerington
DAVENPORT -- Donna Jean Yerington, 69, a resident of Davenport, died
Saturday, April 26, 1997, at her home in Davenport, after a lengthy illness.
There will be no visitation. Private family services will be held on Tuesday
at Davenport Memorial Park. Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, is in
charge of arrangements.
Donna Jean Smith was born March 28, 1928, in Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of
Lance and Frances (Hipple) Smith. She married Charles C. Yerington on June
15, 1947, in Tipton.
She had worked for 28 years for Great River Uniserv, Davenport, retiring as
the office manager in September 1994.
She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Davenport. She was
an active member of the Davenport Police Auxiliary, serving as its president
for several years. She also had been a faithful and active, honorary member
of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Donna loved to travel and was a fortunate enough to spend the last several
winters with her husband in Bull Head City, Ariz. Bargain shopping and
frequenting the riverboat casinos were her favorite pastimes.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; a daughter, Pam Yerington; sons and
daughters-in-law, Phil and Shelly Yerington and Paul and Connie Yerington,
all of Davenport; a granddaughter, Brandi; grandsons, Kyle, Seth and Ryan;
sisters, Darlene (Mrs. Rhea) Hambright, and Wilma (Mrs. William) Brommell,
Davenport, Pat (Mrs. Robert) Sheets, Tipton, Iowa, and Gloria Yock,
Coralville, Iowa; brothers, Duane Smith, Bloomington, Minn., and Hib Smith,
Chanhassen, Minn; and a special son-in-law, Jim Lonergan, Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Ted.
Donna's lifelong request was that family and friends not mourn her death,
but celebrate her life. Friends are invited to a gathering at the Knights of
Columbus Hall in Davenport on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., where all
can join and reminisce the "Fun Times" of her life. God bless her soul.
In lieu of flowers and plants, Donna's wishes were for memorials to be made
to the American Heart Association, the University of Iowa Hospitals Organ
Transplant Unit or the Genesis VNA Hospice Care Program.
