      CAROLINE WILLIAMS
      Stonington -- Caroline Elizabeth Shafer Holdridge Williams, 70, of599 Wheeler Road, died Wednesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after anextended illness.
      Mrs. Williams was born on March 13, 1927, in Groton, the daughter ofCarl Louis and Christine Elizabeth Williams Shafer.
      Raised in Groton, she attended the local schools. She was a longtime resident of Stonington and was empolyed as a nursing assistant atlocal nursing homes.
      She was an active member of The Old Mystic Baptist Church, where sheserved on the Board of Deacons, the Wightman Fellowship Committee andhelped organize church suppers. She spent time in Florida and enjoyedcamping, bingo, needlework and quilting.
      Besides her husband, Mrs. Williams is survived by a daughter, MaryElizabeth Sepowitz of Old Mystic, four sons, Samual Leeds Holdridge ofOlde Mystic, James Francis Holdridge of North Stonington, Carl NelsonHoldridge of Stonington and David George Holdridge of Pawcatuck; astepdaughter, Gloria Gail Hanczar of Lebanon, a stepson, Thomas DenisonWilliams of Old Mystic; two brothers, Francis Henry Shafer of Suther,Ore. and Philip Franklin Shafer of Plainfield; two sisters LillianEmerline Miner of Mystic and Marilyn Matilda Burchfield of Blainsville,and 16 grandchildren.
