  When quite young, she taught school in the village school of Bedford, Ohio, where her parents had moved when she was a child. The rest of her life was spent at home on the farm at Bedford, Ohio. Alice took care of her mother, who was an invalid for many years, and helped raise the younger children after her mother's death. She also assisted in caring for her father, also an invalid for several years prior to his death. (Hopkins genealogy)
