• Notes	Her early youth was spent attending the district school and assisting the neighbors with housework. Leaving school at the age of 15. During the Civil War, she assisted in scraping lint, making bandages and cracking peach pits for the meats that were used for the soldiers. Knitting socks and sweaters for the soldiers occupied some of her time during World War 1. (Hopkins genealogy)
