    • OBIT: (Batavia Herald) Many old friends were grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Emma Holbrook, widow of the late Emanuel Holbrook, for years a successful merchant and popular Supervisor of Batavia. She passed away Sunday, 4:50 p.m. April 24, 1921 at Oakland, Cal. Aged 71 years. Mrs. Holbrook spent her early life in Plainfield. She gained a good musical education early in life. At birth she was endowed with fine musical talents, which she most successfully cultivated, and at the early age of 14 years, she also commenced the teaching of piano lessons. So successful were her efforts that she continued this work with pleasing results all thru her life, until her last illness, which came from a general break-down. Mrs. Holbrook was a woman of many beautiful traits of character, and made many friends. She was a devoted wife, indulgent mother, a kind friend and a most useful woman to the world. She leaves to mourn her death, two sons Tracy, the noted violinist, Leslie, who is connected with the Batavia post-office, and one grandchild in California. One son, Meredith, passed away a few years ago in California. The remains will be brought to Batavia, accompanied by Mrs. Leslie Holbrook, for burial in the west side cemetery beside her husband. The funeral services will be held at the Hollister funeral home Friday at 2:30. Emma A. Corbin was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Aug. 8, 1849 and passed away in Oakland California. She was married to Emanuel Holbrook May 6, 1877; three children Tracy Corbin Holbrook of Hannibal Mo., Leslie J. of Batavia and Edwin Meredith, deceased of California, one grandchild in Oakland. Her husband passed away in 1895. One sister, Mary, and one brother, Lewis D. both residing in Plainfield. She was a member of the Methodist church since early childhood, commenced teaching music when a girl of 14 years, and was still interested in music at the time of her death. - Plainfield Enterprise (Illinois), May 5, 1921 (Thursday),
