    • Mary Rogness's - Second cousin 7 times removed

      Benedam was the first to settle in the part of Groton that is now named Ledyard, upon a grant of land said to contain about 1,000 acres. He first lived in a log house, then later, about 1730, build a large home which was still standing in 1901 and occupied by Augustus O. Ackley. It was used as a tavern (being on the old post road with a commanding view of Long Island sound and the Atlantic Ocean.
