      Eli Cheney, a farmer married Jane Wallis in 1838 in England. She was born about 1818 and died at age 99. They came to America in 1845 with family, settling at Avon, Ohio working for Joel Townsend, later going to Branch Co., Michigan.

      Eli, Jane, Alfred and Anna sailed from Liverpool for four weeks and four days, arriving in NY probably in October, 1846. They traveled by steamboat from the Hudson River Wharf to Albany, eventually arriving in Avon, Lorain co., OH. Brothers, John, Eli, Luke and Reuben lived in Avon for several years. Eli and his family went to Coldwater, Branch co., MI in the spring of 1853.

      Eli was an avid farmer and was a deacon in his church.

      Eli was christened July 26, 1818 in Naseby.

      Marriage Notes: Source: Church of England - Northamptonshire Record Office, Marriages 1837-1935, No 6, "December 10, 1838: Eli Cheney, labourer of Naseby, father - John Cheney, laborerr, married to Jane Wallis, servant, father - Thomas Wallis, labourer" One witness was Charlotte Cheney. Eli could not write his name but Jane could.
