    • IMMIGRATION:
A ship manifest for the Konigen Luise lists a Jan Dziembek arriving March 29, 1912 from the port of Bremen. The name is clearly Jan on the manifest but had been transcribed as "Ian" on the Ellis Island website. Jan arrived at the age of 22 and was married to Marianne. He was from Borkowo and headed for Jersey City, NJ. I'm not sure is this is our Jan Dziembak but he does come from the same town. Also, while researching arrivals for Czacherski, I noted that several listed Jersey City as a destination. This might be something worth following up on.

Last known address: 4141 E. 57th Street, Cleveland, Ohio

      MILITARY:
Left for the Army from Chillicothe, Ohio. US Army Infantry - Rank of Private. Serial Nbr: 2429287. 35th Company 9th Training Battalion 158th Depot Brigade to --; Company A 7 Infantry to death. Participated in major engagements at St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne in France. American Expeditionary Forces 12 June 1918 to death on 27 Oct 1918. Notified Mrs. Ludvike Duneiska, sister, 4706 E. 67th St., Cleveland, OH.
[*** NOTE *** -- If John was married, why would notification have been made to his sister and not his wife? One possibility is that she was still in Poland. The other is that the immigration record that I found was not really his. Still another is that she had died by the time John was killed in action.]
