    • Jonathan R. Reed was a Union Civil war soldier. He enlisted 11-25-1861 for a three year term. His unit was Company K, 3rd regiment, Ohio, Cavalry. His rank was Private and he died while on duty. He died at Jeffersonville Barracks in NewAlbany, IN of "camp fever and cholera". His wife received a pension for his service. The Civil War Pension Index lists Jonathan R. Reed as the soldier and "J.V. Shaft, Gdn." - apparently Jane Offen's second husband was guardian of Jonathan's children after his death.
      Listed on the 1860 Margaretta Twp., Erie County(OH) Census: "Jonathan R. Reed (42) Farmer Ohio; Jane Reed (28) NY; Cynthia J.Reed (17) NY; George W. Reed (15) NY; Sanana Reed (13) NY; Lucinda Reed (10) NY; Sylvanus Reed (8) NY; Justus Reed (6) NY; and Sarah A. Reed (2) NY."
