1. Phineas was an artist and the Vice-Chancellor of Ingham University.During the Civil War he served in the Union Army as a Colonel and waswounded at Fair Oaks.
2. In 1867, Williams College and the Smithsonian Instittue sent anexploring expedition to South America. Phineas went as the artist of theexpedition when he died.
