      Louis Marvin Gardner, 77, of Norwich-Westerly Road, Route 2, NorthStonington, died Sunday, March 24, 1991, at The Westerly Hospital.
      Mr. Gardner was born in Groton, Dec. 16, 1913, the son of the lateLouis B. and Edith L. (Chapman) Gardner.
      He married Elizabeth E. Willcox on July 15, 1934, in Groton.
      Mr. Gradner worked for Electric Boat for more than 30 years. Heretired in 1979 as an inspector in the inside machine department.
      He was a life member of the Center Groton Fire Company and a memberof both the Magnum Rifle Club in Waterford and the National RifleAssociation.
      Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Louis M. Gardner, Jr. ofLedyard, Benjamin H. Gardner of Gales Ferry, Conn., and John R. Gardnerof North Stonington; three daughters, Mary E. Avery of Ledyard, Judith A.McNally of Liberty, Maine and Janet L. Allard of North Stonington; onsister, Marjorie G. Clark of Nianitic, conn.; 23 grandchildren; and 18great-grandchildren.
      The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in theByles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Burial will be inStarr Hill Cemetery, Groton. Visiting hours are this evening from 7 to 9p.m.
