    • Left Gaulden Manor, Tolland, near Taunton, Somersetshire, England to come to Dorchester in the first company. 19 Oct 1630. Administrator from 1 Apr 1634; proprietor, selectman in 1636-1637 to Windsor, CT. One of the undertakers of the ship Hopewell in 1640. Two light windows in the west wall of the tower of Tolland church were installed in 1932 (dedicated 7 Aug 1932) in memory of Henry Wolcott and Elizabeth who left Tolland in 1630 and became founders of the Wolcott family in America, gift of Henry and cora Codman Wolcott of Boston, MA. An inscription states: 'In loving memory. Henry Wolcott. Donor of this window. October 28 1855- July 21 1939.' Gaulden Manor was built in the 12th century. It includes a great plaster ceiling and oak scren. The Turberville family of Bere Regis (about which Thomas Hardy wrote in 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles") replaced the Wolcotts in this house. When they left their eldest son John remained behind with Anna and Mary and simon. The younger children joined their parents later, but John never went to America.
