  [gurley.FTW] PROOFS IN POSSESSION: Parentage: Birth: Marriage: Death: Other Proofs:Resided at Sprindle Hill farm at Stow, Mass which he inherited from his father. Lieutenant in militia; Selectman for Stow, 1724, 1735, 1747, 1751, and 1752. Served on town committee, 1724, and as tithinman and fence viewer. Buried at Stow. Listed by Savage and NEHGR, July , 1966. Man of good standing in Stow, where he resided. He was shosen at various time by his fellow-townsmen, to act on local committes. Daniel and Anna conveyed their homestead estate to him and it is presumed that their last days were spent with him. This homestead portion was the so called "Gates Farm," which Stephen Gates bought of an Indian in 1684. The conveyance from the aboriginal owner is on record in Middlesex Registry of deeds, vol. ix; page 57. The original instrument, engrossed on parchment and in good preservation, is still in existence in Stow.
